The USDA EIS on the gypsy moth suppression program says, "Pre-exposure to viral infections of the respiratory tract may increase risk of serious adverse effects, including mortality in experimental mammals" (Appendix F, page xii). We would like to know what the MDA's contingency plans are If swine flu outbreaks occur in Maryland. The Hernandez study cited in the environmental impact statement says, "Even if only a few cases of BT human infection have been reported, these results suggest a possible risk for workers spraying BT-based biopesticides during flu outbreaks" (PMID: 11604263).
